CHAMELEON LYRICS
© Copyright Pamela Joy Crawford 2004   l   Album: hannah’s child

Chameleon, spinning in a rainbow,
Chameleon, looking for a reason
To take a breath from seasons
To make a decision

As the curtains change, your reflections range
And as the wind blows so your soul goes
Chameleon come home

Chameleon, wavering illusions
Duelling opinions

As the curtains change, your reflections range
And as the wind blows so your soul goes
Chameleon come home

“I put you together before you were born
So I know who you are
Chameleon is there any room
in your coloured armour?
Chameleon try reflecting me
instead of everything you see”

As the curtains change, your reflections range
And as the wind blows so your soul goes
Chameleon come home
Chameleon come home
He is everything you need

Behind the song Chameleon

I wrote Chameleon in a forest when I had a vision of a forest creature furiously dancing the can can against an onimous backdrop of danger that swirled around it endlessly.  As the backdrop changed colour and increased in pace, so did the creature’s dance.  It was dizzy and exhausted, yet was compelled to keep furiously dancing.

The words of the song are based on this vision in relation to the beautiful verse in the Bible that says “Come unto me all you are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest”.  It’s about finding rest in our identity as people who are loved and intended for a purpose.

The words are meant to be a call to rest in our identity as God’s children, heirs to eternal life through Jesus and created for good deeds in the power of the Holy Spirit.   This is meant to be comfort for the times when we are exhausted from our efforts  and are sick of meaninglessness and managing our image depending on who we are with.   It’s about actually being who we were born to be and knowing deep peace because of this home.
